Out with the negativity

It’s 2018! It’s a new year! Well, we’re a month and a half into it but January was just a practice month anyways! Besides, for Asians, New Years doesn’t start till Lunar New Years anyways. Now I know everyone makes their list of New Year resolution – work out, eat healthier, make money, the uzhe.

This year, I challenge every single one of you to ditch all the negativity in your life. I am a strong believer in positive and negative energy. I believe that positive people will bring positive energy to the space around you and negative people will bring negative energy around you. I also like to think that I am a positive person. So when people with negative vibes come around me, it literally sucks the life and energy that I have away.

So if you’re a negative person, here are some things you can do to help change your mindset about everything negative in your life and turn it into something positive.

  1. Write a list of everything you’re thankful for. No matter how little or big it is, write it down. Remind yourself that there are a lot of positive things in your life.
  2. Stop using negative words. These include, “can’t, won’t, tired, frustrating, no“. Instead, try using words such as, “can, will, happy, understanding, yes“.
  3. Don’t take things personally. When someone says something to you that you don’t like, just smile and walk away.  There’s no need to take it to heart and make such a big deal out of it. The person saying those things are probably trying to get that reaction from you anyways. Why would you give them that satisfaction? Honestly, this is something that should have been taught as children. I’m happy to say that my parents taught me this when I was growing up.
  4. Take responsibility. STOP PLAYING VICTIM! JUST STOP! No one like someone who plays victim for everything. At one point or another, something had to have been your fault. If you suddenly find that all your friends stop talking to you, stop and think about it. Is there something wrong with you? Or is there something wrong with everyone else? Chances are, your old friends got tired of your negativity and decided to do something healthy for themselves by distancing themselves from you.
  5. Forgive. This is actually really hard to do. How can you forgive someone so easily when they have wronged you in so many ways? Nevertheless, you have to try. Once you let go of that anger, that grudge, you’ll be so much happier and less bitter about everything that reminds you of that one person who wronged you.

“When you think everything is someone else’s fault, you will suffer a lot. When you realize that everything springs only from yourself, you will learn both peace and joy.”

– the Dalai Lama
